Description

LEARNING CAFÉ: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE NEWS ENTERS OUR CLASSROOMS?

Today’s technology brings daily events (whether they’re occurring in New York, Charlottesville, or Puerto Rico) immediately and dramatically into our lives and the lives of our students. As educators—and as parents—we are continually assessing when to address such events with children and young adults, when to integrate them into our daily work, and when to keep them at bay.

Given the tumultuous times in which we’re living, we anticipate that these decisions may only become more frequent. We hope you will join us on October 11 to think together about when and how to address the news of the world with our students.

FREE / REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED

For those who have not attended one previously, a Learning Café is an interactive opportunity for staff and parents to think together about a complex issue or question. Members of the District’s staff will share some information on the particular topic. Parents and staff will then think together in small groups about questions posed. In the past, we’ve looked at videos together, listened to panel presentations from KLSD teachers, and heard from District administrators.
